Andy Oswald

Howdy, y’all.  I am Andy Oswald.

I grew up in the Houston area graduated from Cy-Fair High School. I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University in Curriculum and Instruction with teaching emphases in mathematics and computer science.  Several years later I completed my Master of Arts from Our Lady of the Lake University in Human Science with emphases in psychology and sociology.

I worked at a private elementary and middle school for a few years before taking a job at Lone Star College – Tomball as an academic advisor, developmental math teacher and math tutor. From there I was recruited to the Lone Star College System working in the Information Technology Department as a database trainer and moved up to a senior systems analyst.  On the side at Lone Star College, I taught developmental math courses, psychology, and sociology courses as well as statistics courses. In 2008, I took a job with Sam Houston State University – College of Education as their data and reporting analyst.  My adjunct instructor duties there included teaching bachelor’s level courses in psychology focusing on elementary aged children’s learning and development. I also taught master’s level courses in computerized data management.  I retired from SHSU in June 2024.

Other activities include being a former firefighter with the Klein and Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Departments, geocaching, playing board games, music, movies and ham radio (call sign KI5NYJ).

Currently I live in The Woodlands with my wife Shannon and our German Shepherd, Rose.

I believe education positively changes a person, and then they can change the world. I look forward to exploring mathematics with students who not only want to “get the right answer” but also understand math at a deeper level and apply it to science, engineering, and even daily life.
