Alicia O’Neill
My name is Alicia O’Neill, and I have been teaching college-level English for the past 20 years. I have taught both on the college campus (Texas A&M University, Blinn, and Lone Star College) and in the high school classroom. I am currently teaching dual credit English and AP courses at a private, Christian high school in the Tomball/Woodlands area.
As a writer myself, I enjoy instilling a love for the written word in my students, especially in those students who may not have an instinctive love for the subjects of reading or writing. I consider it a great gift to be able to witness these less enthusiastic students find their voices and become advocates for themselves (and others) via written communication.
Adaptability remains one of the most important tenets of my teaching philosophy, and I enjoy the challenge of molding my knowledge of composition and literature to the unique needs of the individual student. In addition to my experience in essay and standardized test prep, I have also worked extensively with dyslexic and struggling readers. It brings me great joy to witness the self-agency and empowerment these students receive when they strengthen and then exercise their communication skills. My experience teaching the Engl 1301 Composition and Rhetoric course paired with Developmental English at Lone Star College contributed to my familiarity with interacting with struggling readers/writers.
I look forward to working with students who need assistance in standardized test preparation, reading/rhetoric, or help in writing at any stage of the writing process.
